Over the years I’ve always just missed seeing Vivid in person when it happens across Winter, but I finally got to check it out last weekend when I was in Sydney and it was quite a spectacle. I stayed at Pullman Sydney Hyde Park, which is a great central location, close enough for me to stroll to my all time favourite restaurant Chat Thai in Haymarket or to Westfield Mall for shopping, and a decent walk to the various Vivid attractions. I was also really blessed with great weather that weekend as it was clear skies during the day which made it warm enough to take a dip in the hotel’s rooftop swimming pool, which we did right after brekky! I was literally on that top floor for a couple of hours cause we had breakfast, went for a swim, followed by a dip in the hot tub, then a session at the gym, followed by the sauna and finally retreated back to our rooms. Literally all the facilities I needed for some much needed rest and relaxation weekend getaway!
I do have to say I was quite impressed with the interior of the rooms at the Pullman, especially the unique Matt Blatt themed suite which gives off that home-away-from-home feel, and left me with some inspirational ideas for my home. Loved the Netflix ready smart TV with Siri enabled lighting controls. I need to get my home all automated up following all these ideas. I’ll leave you now with some pics of the hotel and the great view from their roof top level. If your looking for top things to do in Sydney while you’re there, check out Pullman’s Sydney Guide which might give you some ideas.
As for Vivid, I was really impressed with all the light shows and it’s great that they have it on for such a long period of time over Winter, unlike Melbourne’s White Night which is just over a day. The Harbour Bridge and the Opera House looked magnificent from afar but the illuminating swings stole the show for me although I didn’t manage to sit on it due to the long queues. I wished I was able to capture more photos to share, but it was quite packed for the two days I was there because of the long weekend holiday. So it was comfortable enough to see the attractions, just a little challenging to take good photos but at least I recorded some video footage. As much as I wanted to, I wasn’t actually able to see every single attraction on the map, sadly missing out on the ones in the Botanical Gardens which I heard were really good. Oh well, there’s always next year!
Anyways do check out the short Instagram video below that I put together to give you an idea of what it’s like if you’re thinking of checking it out next year! Enjoy the pictures! I’ll be back Sydney.
