Picking up where I last left of from Part 1 of my road trip with the Accor Hotels, my next destination was one night in the Gold Coast! After a lovely drive from Bisbane with the coolest Uber driver I’ve ever met, we reached our next destination, Sofitel Gold Coast. Bad weather always follows me when I travel, but not this time, especially not in sunny Queensland! We started our day with a pool side cooking class with hatted chef Sam Moore, from their signature room81 restaurant.
Us enjoying lunch under a canopy by the pool. The hotel’s in a great location as it’s next to Oasis Shopping Centre and a short walk away from the recently refurbished Pacific Fair, one of the main shopping centres in the Gold Coast.
We helped plate up as well, important skills to learn for those picture perfect Instagram shots! Here’s our first of our three course meal, raw tuna with compressed watermelon with chilli. So good!
Our second dish was the Espuma with Jamon crumble, and chargrilled marron with finger lime. Another stand out dish for me as I’ve never tasted some of these native Queensland produce like finger lime.
And our final dish for lunch was foie gras with orange jelly. Who can say no to foie gras! Oh and those are finger limes next to the plate.
So after lunch, we got to check into our rooms and lo and behold, more food was awaiting us! The fruit platter was refreshing and I really liked those bush apples which is a native Australian fruit. But the chocolate was definitely the highlight here. I swear, it’s one of the best chocolate cakes I’ve ever tasted and all the other girls said the same. I spent the rest of the afternoon just chilling by the pool while some of the gals headed of shopping and headed towards the beach which was just a stones throw away.
Cocktails to kick off our 9 course dinner!
Beet root jelly and foie gras filled mousse macarons.
French onion soup which tasted amazing. I’m not usually a fan of onions but I enjoyed it and I could really have one right now especially in this Melbourne weather.
Dessert #1 – Lemon myrtle, lime and bitters.
Dessert #2 – I dont remember what this dessert is called, but it deserves to be called THE BOMB! Definitely the right way to finish an amazing 9 course meal.
So that was pretty much the end of my one night in the Gold Coast before we scooted off to our next destination, Byron Bay the next day. Before we left, we obviously had to have breakfast and here’s what ‘The Breakfast Club’ had on the table!
Anyway, if you made it to the end of this post without finding something to snack on, congratulations! You can now move on to Part 3! If you’re looking to experience this same #WeLoveAccorHotels luxury itinery experience, you can check it out here.
