Hi guys! So about two weeks ago I decided to try a cold pressed juice cleanse following my trip back from the Philippines. I ate so much there and my sugar intake was out of control so I thought it would be good to restore some balance to my body. The cleanse I did was Karmic Juice Cleanse and each juice has less than 5% fructose. The main reason why I decided to try out this specific cleanse a go was due to the low fructose intake. One of the things that have put me off the various juices out there is that they can sometimes be full of sugar or fructose, but I’m glad I found Karmic Juice as it’s juices are cold pressed to retain all the essential minerals, vitamins and enzymes without any added sugar or even water.
I went ahead with the most intense option – the Deep Cleanse program. It isn’t really advisable for first time cleansers and the inexperienced, but having been on an healthy diet and having alot of belief in my will power I decided to do it anyways! The only fruit they use in this program was lemon. No other fruits in this program, hence no sweetness but a whole lot of leafy greens for a big hit of antioxidants. So with this program, the deal is to only drink the 7 juices and nothing else, unless absolutely necessarily if your body needs it. The aim is to give our bodies a break from all the solid food we’re so used to consuming. The daily intake starts off with a Lemon Spice Juice, followed by 5 Green Juices (Kale, Spinach, Celery and Lemon) throughout the day and finishing off with an Almond Chai Milk. I did four entire days of this and survived! There are 2, 4 and 6 day options, so if you plan on doing a cleanse my advise is to choose wisely and commit to it! If you are not keen on vegetable juices, then this might be a bit challenging. I have been making my own vege juice so my tastebuds were well prepared for this. The only difference was this is a cold pressed juice while in mine I chuck all my vegetables into a blender. So the juice were not difficult to drink down for me, I actually really like it because it’s so much easier to down compared to the thick juices I make!
If you follow me on twitter, you know I love to eat and this was going to be a tough challenge. I have to admit I cheated a little. I followed their guideline that if I decided to eat, eat some raw vegetables like celery sticks, or snack on almond nuts and that’s exactly what I did. The first day was the most difficult, I was feeling a bit groggy towards the end of the day. But I caved in on the second day and ate some raw tomatoes and almond nuts. Not too bad I guess, do listen to your body and eat if you must, but don’t go to the extreme and pick the wrong choices! The best part of the daily juice program is the last juice of the day – the almond milk – because it’s all creamy and has more sweetness in it. It’s a real treat for doing well for the day!
The third day was really good too, snack on a few almonds because I just can’t do ZERO solid food, but I started feeling all refreshed and energetic. Did not go to the gym at all during this 4 days because I didn’t want to build up an appetite and it’s also not advisable. Finally, day four came and my boyfriend chose the absolutely worst day to make pizza at home and it was horrible! Horrible for me that is, I’m sure his pizza tasted great. Can you imagine the tempting smell of grilled cheese and pastry! I went all ballistic at him, sulked in a corner with my almond nuts and distracted myself the rest of the day binge watching Better Call Saul. Oh yes, make sure you have a list of distractions ready in your arsenal so you know what to do when you’re about to cave in!
After finishing the cleanse, I have to admit that I felt really really good and healthy from day 2 onwards until after. Some people lose weight while they’re on a cleanse but I barely did, probably because I’ve been hitting the gym quite hard before this. Following the cleanse program. I ate in smaller portions as my appetite has shrunk a little, so be sure to embrace your new appetite and keep it small as we often overeat and our real intake should be a lot less than what we’re currently put our bodies through. I didn’t want to waste what I’ve done for the last four days either. I had salmon for lunch and a grilled chicken salad for dinner 1st day post cleanse. My sugar craving was pretty much gone because I’ve stopped sugar for so many days. That was my main problem prior to the cleanse with my addiction to sugar and my large meals. I’ve been trying to eat smaller meals ever since and have only reintroduced more carbs recently, and I treated myself to a healthy pizza recently!
Anyways, I hope this review of my experience of a cold-pressed juice cleanse help. I’ll definitely do it again and do recommend to give it a try. My advise would be to do the necessary preparations prior to a cleanse, choose a right cleanse program and commit to it! Highly recommend Karmic Juice if you’re in Melbourne because it’s a tried and tested pack of goodness. Enjoy!
